Our website (www.chinese-speakers.org), (“the Site”) is operated by ChineseSpeakers, Department of East Asian Studies, University of Leeds (“we”, “us” or “the Association”).

The right of rectification – members are able to amend their personal data direct through the ChineseSpeakers site or by contacting us

The right to erasure – members can amend or delete their personal data as they see fit through their profile on the ChineseSpeakers site (note: deleting all the info will not delete your log-in, to completely remove yourself from the Association please contact the ChineseSpeakers Team)

The right to restrict processing – members can delete any data you don’t want processing; we do not process any personal data for marketing purposes, nor do we pass information on to third parties

The right to data portability – you can access all your data through logging on to the ChineseSpeakers site and are free to retain and reuse your personal data for your own purpose

The right to object – in certain circumstances, individuals are entitled to object to their personal data being used. This includes if a company uses personal data for the purpose of direct marketing, scientific and historical research, or for the performance of a task in the public interest. We do not use personal data for these mentioned reasons, should you have any related queries or objections, please contact us

Rights of automated decision making and profiling – automated decision making and profiling is not currently used by ChineseSpeakers

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

The Association is committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion throughout the organisation.

The Association’s aim is to represent its members[i]. All members must be treated with equal respect and included in all Association activities. Members, partners, and those assisting in the delivery of our services should be made aware of this policy and encouraged to promote equality, diversity and inclusion with respect to the Association’s activities. The Association will ensure that no member is subject to any form of conscious discrimination in relation to the Association and its activities.

The purpose of this policy is to provide the guidelines for equal, fair and impartial treatment of Association members, partners, and suppliers irrespective of individual status or circumstance.

The Association opposes all forms of conscious discrimination. All staff, whether full-time, part-time, temporary or voluntary members, partners and suppliers will all be treated with equal respect. The Association commitments to:

  • Create an environment where contributions from all members are recognised
  • Zero tolerance towards member intimidation, bullying or harassment in any form
  • Equal opportunity for members to promote and access training, development, employment and other activities made available through the Association

The Association will actively encourage member participation in our governance structures to reflect the diversity of our members.

The Association will encourage a similar level of commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion by members, partners and suppliers in the delivery of our mission statement and objectives. 

This policy will be monitored by the Association’s Secretariat and will be periodically reviewed to ensure it remains fit-for-purpose.
